The BFT Golf Classic

Friday and Saturday July 23-24th

Scotfield Country Club

 Enfield, NC

"I think we're the best fishermen in this Tournament!"...........Kip Peregoy of team Filet and Release Fishing Team summarizing his team's 2009 BFT Outing.

The BFT Golf Classic was born many years ago, early one morning somewhere between breakfast at a Bob Evans and the Waffle House.  What began as a gathering of friends has  turned into a full weekend of golf combined with an opportunity to support a great cause.  Past participants of the BFT know that the weekend is more than about a round of golf.

It is about a good time that has become as permanent on the calendar as July 4th, The Scotfield Summer Classic, and the March Madness weekend.  Rumor has it John Daly and Charles Barkely have lost more money wagering on the BFT than they have in Vegas.

The tournament provides golfers of all skill levels an opportunity to taste victory.  The field is divided into three flights following play with prizes presented to flight champions, long drive, and closest to pin winners.  There has been a playoff to determine the overall champion three out of five years.  This year's championship course really will open opportunities for another closely contested outcome.  The parity is a result of the stipulation that each team's overall handicap should not be less than 28.

Each year at the champions dinner, The Russell Bass Trophy is presented to the winning team of the Championship Flight.  Russell Bass was a participant in the inagural event and the ceremonial "pull from the cup" is in memory of him.

The BFT has had several celebrity appearances  including Tony D'anunzio (from Caddyshack), Brent Musberger, and even Jimmy V.  Other celebrity appearances not pictured include Tiger Woods, Ian Baker-Finch, Tom Kite, John Rollins, Fuzzy Zoeller, and Gary Player***.  Each year as word spreads we have a larger celebrity contingent.

It was in Year 3 that we donated our first money to Edgecombe County Hospice Foundation. The golf tournament has grown every year in its number of participants as well as the amount of money raised.   With the help of our players as well as support from the community, we look forward to another successful BFT Golf Classic.

We look forward to seeing everyone in July.

***Note that none of these actual celebrities have ever shown up to the BFT; however, very similiar replicas of them have shown up.
